When it comes to the design of tombstones, we have to talk about our understanding of the significance of tombstones. Tombstones are not for the dead, but for the living. The value of a tombstone is not because the dead need a place to store their bones (death is materialistic, death means the end of everything, and we do not recognize the existence of spirits in heaven), but because the living need a place to remember their dead and to comfort their souls.
In essence, tombstones just provide a medium to place people’s thoughts. The tombstone is not eternal because of its own architectural form or material, but because of people’s continuous belief, sustained spiritual sustenance and obtain a certain degree of “eternity”.
