Located 30 kilometers east of Tong in Xi ‘an, Shaanxi Province, the Tomb of the First Emperor of Qin and the Pit of the Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses show the structural layout, design ideas and achievements in science and technology and culture of the Qin Dynasty, and are known as “one of the wonders of the world”.The tomb was built between 246 BC and 208 BC, and the existing tomb is covered with soil 40 meters high. The layout of the mausoleum is modeled after Xianyang, the capital of Qin Dynasty. It is divided into two cities, with an inner perimeter of about 2.5 kilometers and an outer perimeter of about 6.3 kilometers.
The Terra Cotta Pit, a large burial pit for the Qin Mausoleum, was discovered in 1974 and is located to the east of the first emperor’s mausoleum. Four pits have been excavated, covering a total area of more than 25,000 square meters. In the pits, there are a large number of terra-cotta warriors and horses of the same size as real horses and various weapons used in actual combat. As many as 10,000 pieces of cultural relics have been unearthed. In 1987, it was included in the World Cultural Heritage List.
