What is an altar?

The altar is the table where mass sacrifices are held. In the early days of the church, masses were often held at the tombs of the martyrs, so the bones of the martyrs were usually hidden in the sacred stone in the middle of the altar, called altar stone. Candles were lit during the offering and covered with white altar cloths. The Latin for altar is altare.

 

The altar is the dining table of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is the center of the Thanksgiving feast. All sacraments and rituals converge in this center. The altar and the Eucharist are the source and culmination of church life. The evolution of the altar style.

In the beginning, the altar used by the apostles to hold the Thanksgiving sacrifice must be the dining table of the home.
